Using Numbers as a Classroom Management Tool

At the start of the year I assign each student a number (I just go right down the role sheet). We use these numbers to line up (I call students by number and it helps for a smooth transition and limits arguments over places in line). Students also write their number on the top of the paper. When I collect and grade them, I just put them in number order and that makes it SO much easier to record in my grade book. It also helps with managing text books, posting to our data wall, and randomly choosing volunteers.
